Rocking it, Justin accompanied Nicole to the Rockstar audition before M closed on April 2nd and boy, they got us some publicity there...The Star and now in HOT mag, boy, we are HOT!

Justin rockin' on guitar for Nicole (U live u learn, Alanis). Justin ended up auditioning too. Nicole was close to a call back according to An inside source, while Justin managed to made his impression on Channel V, we'll see where this takes both of them...

What is a life without love?

I joined M! not expecting to see love but love is everywhere....

Underneath my loudness I'm but a sentimental fool (like many in the cast), last night we had an incredible preview and after the show out in the theatre lobby of Istana Budaya, I met many friends and families of the cast who reminded me that there are people out here in this rat race metropolitan who really do love, and they love deep.

During the final month of rehearsals we stretched evening rehearsals to the maximum, so by 11pm every night we house a pack of patient husbands, boyfriends & girlfriends of the cast at the back of the rehearsal room...waiting to go home with their loved ones. During the technical runs of the opera I met family members of very fortunate cast members, who clearly are also in love with what their loved one's passions.

It's heartwarming to see that people in their active earning phase in life spending time with families, Elyssa's parents, Sushee's husband, Taufik's dad, Michelle's and Doreen's husbands, Peter's partner...these people are really sharing their lives together by showering support and encouragement.

Reminds me of the days when my sweetheart used to wait for my singing class to finish to give me a lift home...who then later encouraged me to buy a car (and get a driving license) for all my singing engagements.

Let our love for the music and life shine through on stage tonight, and right through our run till next Sunday...

...some flash backs in pictures....then and now, people came and gone, moments that will live for a long time, people we love and hate, things that stayed, things that did not, I cherish them all the same..

I can't wait to see the costumes for Sepi, Dominique Soong & Madame Ling Song, and all that hair, hair, hair and make up!!!

Rehearsal stopped last night after a run-thro from Act one right to second last scene in Act three, in front of full team, FULL team, from Saidah to Mac Chan (technical director). Later at mamak some said they spotted tears in the audience during a grieve-spooked moment in act three.

Speaking of tears, I had a sneak preview of the music being rehearsed with Roland Peelman on Thursday. In the cosy bandwagon in Istana Budaya....they were rehearsing Sepi's very first aria, Mr Wolf. I had a few moments when I forgot to breathe because being in the same room as the full orchestra music being played, inches from me, was simply overwhelming. Michelle said it will be a while before we could recover ourselves when we hear the orchestra (a western orchestra, a percussion section and gamelan team).

I got my plate pretty full with bumping in this week and handling the non-stop media calls. Adding on top we are still on a look out for a few coordinators to help out in our final stretch...a person to man the sur title machine, a person to see to the program book compilation and runner hands...here and there, it's an opera after all, an epic story needs all the epic-size backstage backing!

Time to run, rehearsal!!

I asked TV Smith what should I call this blog entry with the pictures he took earlier.

He said, "Rain dancers, taking KL by storm."

Taken towards the end of the shoot TV did on Michelle as part of media promo for M! The Opera. It was drizzling and there were leaves, sand and strong wind and Michell and I were having a ball dancing and jumping just outside Mandarin Oriental, on the way back to KLCC for refuge from the storm that was looming overhead.

I simply can't believe my luck.

Where do I begin?

The grateful me kissing the bag (with all its contents inside) outside the police station waiting to be interviewed by officer

Nicole said I was lucky to have them at the mamak with me, the three macho men from what we call now, the M! Team: Peter (Solomon), Justin Chan & Usamah (hon I'm still waiting for your biog!!!!).

To cut the seriously, unbelievably dramatic episode short: My handbag was snatched from me (it was on my lap when I sat at the table) at our regular mamak after rehearsal and the Fantastic Three got my bag back, everything in tact, plus, Peter caught, get this, he caught the robber with his bare hands.

The crazy night started from there.

He walked straight to our table and grabbed the bag handles from my lap, right in front of Sobha's eyes and ran...before I could even react to my empty lap, the M! Team leaped from their chairs and ran after the unfortunate robber....there were gone before I could even stand up. The whole company at the mamak woke to the commotion and a few went after the now very panicked robber.

At the back of my head I was mourning the loss of my contacts in my phone while I stood by the road with Sobha, asking if I was ok. I was fine....just handbag-less. The whole table was now empty and I stood around wondering about the goose chase.

Then Nicole nudged me and said, "Look, they got your bag BACK."

From a distance Justin was walking back to the mamak with this black thingy dangling from his hand...WOW.

The mamak erupted in standing ovation, for Justin. I checked my bag, the precious mp3 player was inside, with all my M! recordings of rehearsals...wallet, no handphone. Justin ran out to the main road and picked up my handphone that fell off from the bag.

Basically, there were at least 4 to 5 men who ran after the robber and at least one of them pounced on him and caused to trip and forgo the bag. He took off with a very persistent Peter tailing him, Usamah and one other guy followed closely.

Peter lost him in the school up the road, wouldn't give up. He and Usamah looked in the drains, under the cars...he was hiding under one car, Peter SANG a high pitch to get attention. Usamah got the cops and it was the end for then.

Another round of applause when the duo came back.

I sat there, unable to touch my food now. We continued at the mamak, I watched the now very hungry Usamah and Peter finished their food.

Yes, like good citizens, we made a police report. At the police station I was escorted to the officers' office and the 26-year-old (I saw his ID card later) in handcuff walked next to me...eerie.

Turned out that the three police who took the robber to the police station were all volunteer police men and Suren, the one I spoke to to most, he is a car sales man in the day, he used to dance, and he was a stage manager for theatre production.

I can't believe my LUCK.

The gang continued the session at the police station. I sat waiting for the officer in a separate building, with TV blaring Malay program. Then Khir Rahman came on and sang a Malay number with dancers in red and white. I introduced M! to all the police I met there, good thing I got the bag back, with the show flyers in it.

I got home at close to 4am.

Now am really sleepy.

Three cheers to the M! Team.

And toast to the operatic `Divo' Peter who not only sings, but kicks ass.

Michelle said she doesn't think it's possible for her to get anymore excited about the production, but she is!

Me too, to the point of feeling a little insane.

Have to turn this energy to good effect on stage, she said. We went straight from launch to rehearsal yesterday, I didn't feel any exhaustion at all, it must have been my fire burning through long day, except for the creeping migraine.

You can smell the energy of the cast awaiting to see the show uncovered while they are in rehearsal space...it's a vibe you can sense miles away. This is the final stretch.

The New "Funky" Malaysian Opera

M! The Opera is dedicated to our late Patron, Allahyarham Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, whose initial support and encouragement gave us the courage to embark on this pioneering project.

20 February, 2006 – M! The Opera was officially launched today by Yang Berusaha Puan Nori Abdullah, Chairperson of Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia who has been instrumental in supporting the opera, from fund-raising to providing support and encouragement. M! The Opera’s presenting sponsor is YTL Corporation Berhad and was represented by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Francis Yeoh at its launch today. In addition to the Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia, the production has also been supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage and the Istana Budaya. I got script!!!

Received the complete text for the opera on Saturday, rehearsed the music to big ensemble number at the end of act 1...check this out, we are going to block it tomorrow evening - I can't wait.

A friend from the media showed up with a camera and started snapping away, of Saidah working with Muriz and us. We chatted a little after the rehearsal about how things are moving in the rehearsals, his story should be in print on Tuesday (fingers crossed). Will let you folks know!!

Fixing an interview for Tuesday, this one will sure prove to be very interesting because the angle is really, a first of its kind.

I can't wait...

Monday rehearsal of the Atelier scene will be in props, I packed my dancing heels and pencil skirt already. Think my silver mash bag should be useful for POW scene in rehearsals. My collection of masks, too, would be put to use for the first time, for rehearsals! This month of Feb would be the most glamorous rehearsals for me...think heels, hats, organza, pearls, glitter masks, feathers...

That aside, it's time now to do a thorough read through of my Script!!

Publicity Watch: Cindy & Jo - Marie Claire (Feb)

Jo and I had a good interview on Traxx FM (formely Radio 4) this morning at 10am, Constantin (hailed from Sabah) hosted us and he said he will be there at the show, yes, way to go Constantin! On Feb 15 Jo will be on Astro News (Channel 92), talking about her life in theatre and working with on M! The Opera.

While we are busy with the broadcasting media, the print media department is starting very very busy. Cindy Yeap and Jo are featured in Feb issue of Marie Claire, page 64, on mentoring.

Cindy is by far the most driven new-comer/singer in KL theatre I met last year...coupled with her unbelivable music background and talent, she is going to go far. She is playing Madamn Ling Soong in M! -- a stounch believer in M's magic in making women beuatiful...despite the deadlines. Watch the show in March and you will see...

After a frantic search for interview space, finally got it -- he gracious WASP Studio again hosted our interview with a major English daily (will link the story here once it's out, it's going to be soon!!) and the gorgeous five took some snaps in the garden. I jumped in with my faithful old Olympus point and shoot and got two shoots of them in action...

There is only one Saidah Rastam in Malaysia...composer of M! The Opera.

Pleasant surprise...minutes before I turned in after our evening rehearsal with Saidah and Roland Peelman, I found an old article on Kakiseni, on Saidah. Yes, old article, back in 2001, I dont know whether the idea of M! existed but interestigly, this article by Jan Thornton is on Saidah working with Roland's The Song Company.

I thought to myself while downing my drinks after rehearsal why not start a blog for M! The Opera since in this age of bloggers' paradise, having a blog is like having an email add.

I told other happy shinny cast members at supper that we could post our own collection of photos takem during M rehearsals, outing, etc and blog our very own M diaries.

Here are some of my favourite pictures taken of the process in putting M! together...we are still putting it together now as I write but comes March...we will take on Kuala Lumpur, you'll see something you'd never seen before :)
